Yep. That's a common problem, and reflects the state of the electronic
component industry today. As the late, great Don LaFontaine would intone, "In a
world..." of throwaway consumer electronics, quality, long-life switches just
aren't made anymore.
I replaced mine with one out of an old mouse. I had to dig through a box of old
computer stuff I kept, but found a switch that was close enough on the third
mouse I tried.
I also fixed the encoder of an old HW-5400 that way once, but that's another
story...
I'm sure Icom is aware of the problem -- mine was out of warranty, but maybe
yours is less than a year old???
One final note... I connected a 220 ohm resistor from +13.8 to the positive fan
lead (which is still connected as usual). Now it runs at a continuous low speed
that is barely audible, and only kicks up to high speed during long-winded FM
transmissions. Temperature meter never gets out of the blue, and the case is
nice and cool to the touch at all times.
