I talked to Del K1UHF at a local hamfest this past weekend about the difficulty
in using Writelog with the Rigblaster. The problem is that Writelog does not
have the capability to control the Rigblaster PTT line via a serial interface.
Other programs like CT do have this capability. I believe Del has made the
Writelog folks aware of this and it is my understanding that the needed software
changes should not be a large undertaking. While I wouldn't abandon Writelog
for not having this feature, I think integrating it would not just help current
users but make the program more attractive to potential contest logging
customers who have not yet made a decision on which program is best for them.
An alternative solution that Del tells me he is investigating is modifying the
Rigblaster so that the unit can be controlled via a parallel port. Writelog
does have the software required to control a DVK via a parallel port. The only
issue here is that the Rigblaster could not be controlled in the future via a
serial port until the parallel mod was removed, not a big deal. Stay tuned fore
more details.
In the past I have used a modified version of the audio interface that KV1W
describes on the Writelog website with moderate success though balancing the
audio is touchy. I was hoping for a cleaner solution when I purchased my
Rigblaster.
