Thanks to all who helped. It was in fact 4 separate and
distinct problems. One for each of the four computers
on the network. Marty, Eric, and Jim Jarvis and the K9JY
pages each supplied one piece of the puzzle. After 25
years of being a crypanalyst and communications theorist,
I can tell you I have never been so befuddled by a puzzle
and felt so helpless.

There is definitely a message hidden in the noise here
somewhere. Hopefully, seeing as how I got about 20 replies
in private, and many here, this is a known problem that
needs a simple, easy to follow, AUTOMATIC installation
program/script so idiots with Ph.D.'s and 34 years of
computer and programming experience like me can do the
job.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. I let my
multi-multi team down and somebody was going to catch
heat.

As a standalone thing, I really like the way the VHF Sweepstakes
module worked. I have a couple of small suggestions to
give the module author if someone will identify them. Most
of these deal with handling the rover and its unique flavor
to VHF contesting.

Thanks,
Bob N4HY

Make sure both the user name and the password are ALL UPPER CASE, no
spaces, and fit within Win98 size limits. Win98 will not
accept NetDDE connections that don't use upper case passwords...

I also believe there is a certain way that you need to
connect Win98 computers to those with newer OS's. I don't
remember the details, but the "FIX" is that all computers
must have the same login name and password for it to work.
I can't remember where I saw that posted, but another good
place to look for information on networking is the
http://www.k9jy.com site, under Multi-Op contesting, Networking.
