I tried to change the SET COMM PTT command to NO. That simply shuts off
computer generated PTT. All DVK recordings now require VOX to be selected
on the K3 to play. Record on the fly no longer works correctly. As VOX is
being used, PTT no longer keeps the recording process engaged until the
Escape key is pushed.
SO.... Tonight I tried N1MM in a similar configuration as WriteLog.
Specifically:
> N1MM set up for DVK / PTT in SSB mode
> Soundcard DVK
> VOX selected on both K3s for SSB transmissions via mic
> Top Ten DX Doubler
> WinXP
> both K3s using dummy loads
This is the same configuration used for WriteLog that, when using DVK, the
K3s hang in transmit.
TEST 1:
> The DVK was playing back a recorded CQ in the left radio
> During the CQ (on left radio), I pushed CTRL F6 and radio left stopped
calling CQ, the computer/DX Doubler switched to the right radio, and radio
right sent my call as if I was responding to a CQ
> This was tried several times with CQ from right, then left etc.
RESULT 1: In every case the K3 NEVER hung in transmit.
TEST 2:
> Exactly the same as above, except I did not have VOX selected on the K3s
RESULT 2: Same result - the soundcard DVK and computer generated PTT never
hung either K3 when the CQ was stopped with the command to immediately send
my call on the other K3. However, I could not use the mic for SSB
transmission without using the foot switch.
NOTE: When I try the exact same test using WriteLog, the K3 sending CQ, the
one that gets interrupted when the keyboard command is selected to send my
call, ALWAYS hangs in transmit.
TEST 3:
> NO SO2R
> Recording on the fly using N1MM
> PTT selected in N1MM
> VOX selected on the K3
RESULT 3:
> The K3 instantly stops recording when the escape key is pushed.
> The K3 NEVER hangs in transmit after any of the recorded messages
being played back are completed
CONCLUSION:
> There is something different in the WriteLog PTT/DVK logic that does not
clear the transmit signal before asserting transmit on the other rig.
Anyone have any suggestions??

Yes, that was the "trick" I was missing.
Set "Comm PTT" to NO fixes the hanging problem completely.
Thanks Joe! I'll play around with this a bit more, but it does work.
Certainly wasn't obvious...
