If I remember right from a few years ago when I put up some 55g the
brackets are not exceptionally tight.  I would not expect them to be
able to just grab the leg and hold the guy forces, that would take so
much pressure on the leg that it could collapse it.  So between the
funny bend that is meant to keep the bracket in contact with the brace
and the small cross pieces I expect that most of the down force does go
into the brace.  I would think that transferring the down force through
6 welds is probably better than 3 friction clamps on the leg tubing.
