The fall arrest gear on my harness is quite different than this system
although they do serve similar goals.
The fall arrest gear hooks in back while the safety climb hooks in front
with a very short lanyard.
The Safety climb type of equipment also aids in making climbing much
easier although it does not eliminate the need for fall arrest gear.
However with the safety climb I can use (not approved) open hooks on the
tag lines. These lines hook to the back of the harness. This would
enable me to climb 100 or 200 feet in a quarter of the time with less
effort than it takes to climb 100 at present.

I've seen this approach used with 1/2" or 5/8" rope on temporary
installations, but I never trusted one of those. What I'm thinking of
uses a 3/8" wire rope with a gravity operated slider. Thee is a lighter
duty version that uses 5/16" wire rope.

Once at your work location you hook up the fall arrest gear and then
disconnect from the safety climb so you can more around the tower. Of
course you could also hook a longer lanyard to the safety climb at that
point, but I'd prefer not to have my fall arrest gear hooked to the
front of the harness.

I've found that Trylon and saf-t-climb have these systems and left an
e-mail with Trylon. I may need to get a slightly larger climbing
harness as I get older.<:-))
