That's a good solution. The difference between the top and bottom of
the band is about 8%, so I would start by making the radiator 7% longer.
That is, measure the current length, multiply that by 1.07, and try that
for the total length. Be prepared to prune it to length, like any other
antenna.
Don't worry about perfect VSWR, but when you get the resonance (as
indicated my minimum SWR) to where you want it, then try playing with
the tap on the ring (if it's adustable).
