Wasn't this topic beat to death less than a year ago... You can regulate what
ifs!
There is hardly any difference between a club station supported by members and
this approach...the club members are spread across vast distances and operate
the station remotely, big deal. These are well architected stations that most
of us will never construct let alone own or in this case afford to operate.
The scenario doesn't make option particularly questionable. It's just different
and clearly designed for the few in our hobby that are easily separated from
their hard earned dollars....;-) its just one aspect of our hobby, not the end
of it.

P.S. what's killing the hobby is the dead weight from all the no code tech
license holders who flooded our hobby after 9/11 thinking it would be a good
idea to have a backup for their cell phones....after years of no follow-on
attacks those handhelds they bought lay idle with dead batteries in a dresser
drawer. Sadly, the clubs that sponsored the ham cram one and two day classes
have ignored these new entrants to the hobby...so it appears has the ARRL! No
follow-up classes to teach basic RF theory, so these folks could get interested
in the real hobby not just the convince of a 2 m repeater during power
outages... Those that took the next level of cram class don't have a clue what
they are doing with HF antenna, amps, processors, etc. we've all heard them on
75 and 40m. Clueless! So, here is a threat to the hobby, perhaps, and all it
takes is some of us getting engaged in training that demands thinking, not
memorization.
