Hi Alek,
This observation is off-topic, surely, but it sorta ties-in with what you're
saying re. pushing the envelope, being on the leading edge, etc...
Most of us enjoy the delicacy of eating esgargot, n'est ce pas...? Like the
comedian who made this observation, I oft-times wonder what in the world it
was that possessed the first human being who ever say a slithering snail
before him to say, "Gee, I wonder what THAT tastes like...?" :>)
Seriously, though, variety is, indeed, the spice of life. I recall reading
some years ago that the CEO of IBM tried to make it a deliberate corporate
policy that managers deliberately promote future replacements from a pool of
potential candidates whose views & opinions were completely divergent from
their own...
That policy kept the corporation fresh & vibrant, ready & able to embrace
new ideas. I can see it.
Personally, after 30+ years in low-level management at a major automobile
company, I came to be suspicious of the folks below me who treaded water &
were content to "...go with the flow". The vocal "malcontents"---though a
royal pain in the butt---oft-times were driven by a passion to make things
better, and spoke from the heart. They were worth lending an ear to, more
often than not!
