A computer science axiom which has never failed, "garbage in, garbage out". People just assume mathematical simulations are correct.

Werner Heisenberg, the father of Quantum Physics and the uncertainty principle named after him, got the math wrong on Germany's atomic bomb. Good thing too as up to that point the Germans were ahead of us.

In the non-scientific world the webpage is put forth as the final authority as to a story's veracity. One question...Who checks Snopes and what is their financial/political axe to grind?

Nobody has said that mathematics is not useful. My observation was
that a mathematical model is just that - a model - and not the reality
itself. Some people lose sight of that from time to time.
