Hi Doug,
There are many ways to skin a cat, but this link shows how I made the 230uH
plate choke for a dual band 80/160 M amplifier. I wound the wire on a
mini- lathe at a very slow speed (about 1rpm) but a drill press would work
just as well as long as it is a variable speed press.

Hi,
I am looking for tips on how to set up and physically place the wire on the
form. W8JI omits that information.
I was hoping that some of the amp gurus here wound a plate choke and would
share that information, but so far no luck.

Tom W8JI gives a lot of information on winding and testing plate chokes. He
designed the ones for some MFJ amps.

The Ameritron plate choke is too long; won't fit. My only choice is to
rewind it.

Save yourself some headaches, and buy an Ameritron choke from MFJ. They
work very well. They are about $30.00 or 35.00.
