It is beyond me why some are so adamant
about changing the unassisted category
to allow Skimmer..

What is wrong with freezing the
unassisted category where it is for
those who enjoy that category, in
regards to having another source
(whether another operator, traditional
packet or an automated process like
skimmer) telling you who is operating on
what frequency. Let those who want a
code reading machine with the ability to
not only tell you what is being sent but
also on what frequency it is being sent
have a category that allows that.

The bigger picture here is not Skimmer
but where it will lead. The day when a
single operator has to have multiple
rigs with automated (robotic) QSO making
ability is the day contesting may very
well be ruined for the majority of
operators..

The arguments having to do with
enforcement are totally ridiculous.
Those who cheat are going to cheat.
Those who cheat on a regular basis will
be known by other contesters and if they
have any normal human traits will
likely not feel good about themselves in
the process.

Remember that we are competing for fun.
How many of you have ever been asked
what the prize or reward is for winning
a contest by someone who does not know
anything about your crazy hobby?
Certificate of Recognition, wooden
plaque, callsign listed in the
results... is the material answer.

Let's not change the horse and buggy,
primitive form of communications that we
all love in an effort to make it a
digital mode or computer game. There
are plenty of those modes or games that
already exist.
