I had made a few qso's about starting 15 minutes prior to the contest so I had
established that the frequency was not previously used and there were no
frequency conflicts.

Two comments Rich:
1. There is no such thing as ensuring a frequency is "clear," especially over
a 15 minute
time frame.

2. You should never attempt to draw logical conclusions from an interaction
with a LID.
Contesters should work to maximize their score, not defend a frequency. If you
can do
both, then great. Failing that, follow the "rule" and maximize your score (ie,
MOVE).

3. Of course, it is possible that they thought you were RICHARD (not Rich) and
then
anyone can understand wanting to interfere with him. Your error for operating
at K5NA's.
