My Orion has run faultlessly in several contests now - both RTTY and CW. 
I don't do much SSB contesting, so haven't tried that yet.

An Orion I used last fall occasionally had the problem described by Skip,
along with a SubRX that would break into oscillation, driving the S-meter
to about half scale and making it useless.  That rig had had a lot of
abuse, and since mine (Feb 2004 manufacture) has shown none of these
problems I assumed it was related to severe shock/vibration on the other
unit.
