first, a big welcome back to jerry K0CQ whose posts i have not seen in a
long time and were missed.

misc. comments on ground and rf probs.:

don't use braid--use solid copper strap. i used to think braid was okay &
maybe it is for a few inches but anything long; and for heaven's sake
anything outside don't use it. it will corrode and quit being effective.

to the voiceover guy: FB using ur audio chain into ur Peg--it is low Z
unbalanced. you don't need an xformer except for isolation--try using a
w2ihy Ibox for that. IHY can wire up a cable from the ibox to the peg mic
jack and you'll have the transformation from bal. to unbal.
Before you get into outboard audio proc. it is essential that you have
another rx to monitor yourself on. with that you can listen to ur sig into
a dummy load and into ur antenna and see if there is any difference. ditto
with a hand mic into the peg jack v. using the external gear. if there is
any distortion, you probably have rf induced distortion getting back into
your rig or audio chain depending on what you observe.

to the jupiter lockup guy: I have actually had better results by
_disconnecting_ the ground straps from my rigs. Ground your tuner and amp
if you have one, and try letting the rig float. Put ferrite chokes on the
cables hooked up to the jupiter including the coax feedline. you should
have your shack ground point right at your tuner, and anything else that's
grounded should come off of that point. Radioworks has a pretty good
little pamphlet on line that discusses dealing with rf problems in the
shack. of course it also promotes his merchandise but there is some good
information in there all the same. http://www.radioworks.com/nbgnd.html
