GM Bob,

Now you're taxing my memory.
I do remember asking those questions, but I can't recall what we were
talking about, and the rest of the text is chopped off. I just have too
many different antenna discussions every day.

I'll have to search back through old emails and brush up, but I haven't time
today.
Rain Check please.

Well, lets see if I can answer those questions; ** See embedded text.

> 1. What kind of balun (if any) are you using on the coax fed dipole?
** A current choke consisting of #43 & #74 material over RG-213 located at
the feed point of the antenna.

> 2. How is its coax running back to the house? In the air or along the
> ground?
** Down the leg of the tower strapped tight to the leg on the inside of the
tower.

> 3. Do you have an RF choke in the coax line just where it reaches the
> house?
** No, after the PolyPhaser on the tower leg, the coax enters through the
eve vent, through the attic and drops through the ceiling to the back of the

Tentec 238 tuner. There is a coax choke with beads between the input of the
tuner and the amplifier output.

> 4. How is the openwire feedline running back to the house? Similar to the
> dipole?
** Standing away from the tower some 18" supported on PVC stand-offs.

> 5. Have you twisted the openwire on its route to the house?
** Yes with ~ 10 twist per 10 ft of tower between the PVC standoffs.

> 6. What kind of balun are you using on the openwire fed folded dipole?
**None as it is fed by a balanced tuner.

> 7. What kind of noise are you talking about? General band noise or noise
> in storms?
** General atmospheric noise from storms estimated at 300 to 600 miles
distant.

> 8. Is this 1 to 2 S-Units the same in all directions (probably hard to
> tell)?
**Antenna is not rotatable.

> All of these can have an impact on the signal to noise ratio at the radio.
> The main factor in most points is common mode current.
