I'm trying to repair a Viewstar for a friend...I've changed out the T/R Potter Brumfield relay. While testing it worked nicely for a few hours. Turned it on again the next day and a flash over arced from the side (2 inches down the side of the 4 inch cap) of the Mallory CG211T450RC cap to the chassis wall. 7/8 arc. The cap still tests okay with a DMM, however I'm not certain it can be trusted. 15Amp fuse went as well as one side of the 220 circuit breaker. I suspect the serial number indicates a manufacture date of 1984. The high voltage tripler develops about 3800VDC according to the panel meter. Should all the 10 caps 210mfd 450VDC be changed out. What is the life expectancy of this cap? George W7LFD |
