Steve,
On final piece of info ..... I just looked carefully at my Speed Pot and found
that the resistance doesn't change at all over the first 90 degrees of travel
and the last 90 degrees, so a lot of the problem is just the mechanical design
of the Pot.
When the control is fully Clockwise (fastest) mine goes at speeds I would never
use, so one solution is to put a resistor in series witht the Pot slider to
limit the maximum speed. Just did this with mine with the following results:
Resistor: 27 KOhm - max speed 20 wpm
Resistor: 18 KOhm - max speed 25 wpm
Resistor: 10 KOhm - max speed 35 wpm
With the resistor in place its still very "non-linear" but you get a bit more
control range.
Hope this helps,
Steve G3TXQ
Another thing is the silly keyer speed control pot's usable range is
crammed into about 15 degrees? What's up with that? Plus the manual
does not include the keyer schematic. Although it's referenced in the
block diagram as the "logic board" no. 81246. Someone have the
schmatic for this?
