John - My Bourns 10-turn pot (Part # 3540S-1-103) is about 15/16ths inch behind the panel when mounted properly. Have you tried that resistor between the brown and red (purple)? The idea is to have the resistor on the outer ends of the track. Might do something (ha). Maybe not....
