While not out of the question, The problem I had occurred if the radio
was connected to an antenna or just a dummy load.
swapped a module and the problem went with the module.

Could it be a grounding wire resonance or antenna issue that causes RF
to get into the radio?
I once had a problem with birdies with the 17 meter module. Moving
around some of the harness wires that connect to the band module socket
cured it.
