I would key the amp by grounding the amp PTT line. I would measure the keying current and also the amp ptt open circuit voltage and then check the spec on the FT1000D. Then you would know if the FT10

I am using a big 30 amp 240V variac here and it would trip my 30 amp 240V breaker when I powered up the variac on it's own with no load. I had to install a surge limiter on the variac to prevent this
