[AMPS] The Best Value or Best AMP!

Phil,
I was not recomending ANY of the choices listed.
IMHO, the tank circuit components in the Ameritrons
are far too small for legal limit. Even the Heath SB-220
has bigger coils and switches. They look like a tuned input
rather than a tank circuit to me. Any serious amp should take
two people to move if it is to be abused in contests and digital
modes.

The Alpha is convenient and of high quality; but that comes at
the cost of the average owner not being able to fix it when it breaks.

I took the question to mean that he had found the amps he listed
as choices locally for sale used.

At any rate, those would not be in my top three choices because
I demand reliability, ruggedness, and good engineering practices
in my amps.

Another one of my pet peaves other than the rediculously small
tank components is the use of multiple tubes. I buy/build amps
that have ONE tube, with a rated dissipation of at least the power
I intend to run with it. That, and the ability to adjust the filament
voltage makes it very unlikely that I will outlive the tube.

as a tuned inpu not a total "no-brainer." You're talking under 2.5/2k for the
