Disconnect it outside the house, and have a gap some distance 
from the house a half inch wide or so.

I do this by nailing grounded copper flashing to a post. I bring the 
ladder line over an insulator on that post and form the flashing in a 
gap just below the line.

I can disconnect the line and let it lay loose on the house side of 
that post.
