Has anyone here checked the accuracy of the forward power meter on the
Ameritron amps that share the same power supply board as the AL-80B? (That
would include the AL-800, AL-800H, maybe others?)

I recently had to replace the toroid in the power/SWR sensing circuit, along
with several other components in an 800H that came from the previous owner
with extensive electrical damage in that area. When comparing the forward
power output with a Bird 43, I note that the readings are on the button with
the Bird on 160 and 80, but the Ameritron meter reads almost 500 watts low
on 10 meters, with less discrepancy as you move down in frequency.

I suspect the problem might be the lack of a copper or brass shield between
the toroid and the conductor carrying the RF.
