Thats certainly true. A major portion of the new hams I knew in the late
50's early 60s got on with homebrew rigs. Single tube oscillators etc. BUT,
below 100w was considered QRP. My 6L6 osc and my 6DQ6 rigs were probably at
best 20 watts. Anybody under 100 qualified for the QRP club. It still didn't
change the fact that I was p*ss weak and the guys that provided me with all
those magical Qs were the ones who deserved the credit. Some of them must'a
had some fine receivers--- plus the fact the neighbors hadn't yet poluted
the spectrum with all our modern gadgets !
