Do you think that just because you get tons of SPAM that everyone else
should or if they do they should just sit back and take it? Do you think
that we should make no effort to eliminate SPAM and that list hosts bear
no responsibility for helping in that task?
If so, then perhaps you are the one living in the cave. Come out in the
daylight and smell the roses. In today's world more and more people are
focusing on preserving individual privacy on the net and anyone or any
group that doesn't respect that surely is still living with their Model
32 TTY.
I agree that no matter how hard you try, the thoughtless actions by some
individual that may unintentionally forward something to you in a list
that goes to the world will get you but don't accept that as being OK.
We CAN do something about SPAM and we aren't going to do it by sitting
back and telling ourselves that "it's just the way it is". Google shows
about 350 hits for the email address you use on this list. You should
check Google for your office address and then determine how it got out.
A simple address change with notice to those that NEED to know your
address will reduce your SPAM content to zero over night and the rate it
builds back up is directly proportional to how soon that address gets
into the wild.
This list and most any list can take measures to prevent subscriber
email addresses from being released to SPAMMERS. I subscribe to several
other lists and NONE of them generate SPAM like this one. This is the
ONLY one that doesn't secure the archives so that subscriber's email
addresses can't be accessed by bots scanning for prospective targets.
Remember, it's not "just an email"... taken in the large doses that
they're being dished out, it is HUGE chunks of bandwidth and EVERYONE
pays for that.
