5N8K would be technically incorrect if his actual "tone" has no AC in it.
The "T" is supposed to indicate how pure the signal is, ranging from 1
(you sound like a spark-gap rig) to 9 (pure tone).  The letters "X"
(crystal quality), "C" (chirp) and "K" (key clicks) stand separate from
the "T" report.

On VHF we use "59A" during aurora because there's no way to
estimate the tone of a CW signal reflected by aurora.
