Just for the record I have to disagree with opinions like "Penalties for
inaccuracy only punish the inaccurate, which is the way it should be" or
"If you are not in the other guy´s log, then you didn't make the QSO".
Some fair guys admit even on the 3830-reflector that they lost qsos due
to computer crashes. So such things happen - supposedly more often than
written at 3830. The other stations not knowing of their disappearing
from the other logs get penalized - without individual fault.
I can live with the standard (but IMHO weak) argument that it hits
everyone equally (IMHO only: "it can hit everyone") and the stronger
argument that the penalties are necessary to diminsh the number of
riskless guessed calls (a prize for higher rates by not having a real
exchange). But: one can get penalized without being inaccurate - against
what is said in the above quotes.
I am sure it will become a seriously disputed topic when one of the big
titles in a tight race will depend on a few NILS - and the penalized BIG
GUN can bring up recordings of doubtless good qsos.
Until then healthy computers and best 73,
Chris (DL8MBS)
