I agree that you can damage equipment but the point didn't really
stretch that far. We are going into equipment issues when the
discussion is really about scoring.
It's about scoring and what determines a NIL and what not.
In CQWW I don't think that an incorrect signal report should give a
NIL. For something like Winter Field Day it should and probably will.
In a SSB contest if you mistakenly put down CW as the mode even though
you made the contact in SSB, should you be penalized? I don't think
so, but of course the judges' decision is final.
In Sweepstakes, the band doesn't matter because you can only work a
station once regardless of band or mode. I don't think that one
mistake with the band should result in a NIL. In the heat of a contest
sometimes you slip up, and if you don't have a CAT cable you can put
the wrong band. A whole log full? Definitely should be penalized,
that's just carelessness.
Again, this is just my opinion. The judges' decision is always final.
