Myself still would love to see someone sponsor, run, manage, whatever, a
test, where the contest duration is still the full 48 hours. but you can
only operate a max 24 hours.
I just would love to see a formal test of that. it wouldn't hurt the
regular contest, in fact it may help the sunday afternoon doldrums even.

There's a pretty big difference between changing scoring (which I've
never been in favor of) and aligning categories to what participants
actually do (which I am in favor of).
Besides, if you haven't seen people asking for shorter time categories
for years you haven't been paying attention. The only difference is
that now there is data to possibly justify it.

Last year we were trying to level the playing field by changing the
scoring for nearly all of the contests [because everyone lives in a
super DX QTH except "me" and "I" live in a "black hole" (please, no
threads about black holes - it has been beaten to death several times
- I have operated from both coasts and in between)]. That didn't
work. So let's change the time allotted to the contest (or perhaps
the categories). Maybe that will level the field? I doubt it. I
wonder what next year's attempt will be.
