Contesting is about peer recognition. There are many "WRTC Quality"
operators who prefer multi-op settings.
There is more to being a good operator than just SOAB entries. Multi-op
(especially M/S) strategy is an art that separates the men from the boys.
SOAB HP Unassisted gets all the glory, but it doesn't paint the whole
picture.
If you're talking WRTC teams, putting the top 2 SOAB guys in the world
together is not a guaranteed recipe for success.
You can only become a cohesive and successful team by operating together in
a multi-op. Reducing the weight of M/S entries effectively excludes those
operators who prefer multi-ops. Of course it will then include operators
who make 1 QSO and go home.

Proving you are good at team work in a winner takes all 24 hour contest is
awfully high pressure if you are stuck doing SOAB's for the entire 2 years
leading up to it. It would be equally hard to win a SO2R contest if all
you do is multi ops.
It does work the other way around.
