Well, I won't be doing SO2R, but I am doing something "on the edge". FD is
a great time to show people new things.
At our field day, K1BKE (K1B this year), we will be running 4A in NH. I'll
be doing 40 CW.
However, I'll additionally be running 1A as VY1AAA -- via remote.. J has a
6KW generator, and we will have temp antennas in Whitehorse, NT... but I'll
be controlling all that from the FD site in NH, via 4G LTE.
Is this ham radio? Absolutely. Does it have a practical application?
Absolutely. Imagine a situation where there is a natural disaster.
Somewhere close to the scene, there is some method of internet access. An
EMCOM op could remote into a large station anywhere and provide WorldWide
communications for the effort. Over a very small internet link (which
could be an HSMM mesh network for part of the run).
Besides the practical application, it will give other ops the opportunity
to experience operating from the far north.
