I think most of us have had enough of your diatribes. Move on!

I don't view Dave's comments as a diatribe, but rather as an awareness of human nature. The fact that 4O3A considers it important strongly suggests that he has good reason to believe that some competitors are cheating. I think most of us believe that attitudes about right and wrong are taught to us as we grow up by parents, teachers, religious leaders, and others we view as leaders. But those views are also strongly influenced by our circle of friends.

And these attitudes are strongly built into national and regional cultures. Anyone who has ever worked a JA pileup knows that their culture is very different from, say, those in an EU pileup, and within that EU pileup there are huge differences. :)

I believe that Hans accurately gauges the attitudes of his friends, and I also believe that Ranko and Dave accurately gauge the attitudes of others. And I think we all know (or at least know of) people who think that life's rules don't apply to them. Indeed, if you don't, you either don't get out much or you are REALLY out of touch with reality. We see it in some business leaders, in those who work for them, in some politicians, even in so-called religious leaders. Indeed, the doping that has become widespread in many sports is a really close comparison to our contests -- "everyone's doing it, so I must to be competitive."

The real question is how to deal with it. And Ranko, being one of the truly competitive group of ops, may have a good handle both on what's going on and how to address it.
