In terms of the check, yes, it can be hard at times to remember what year
it was or to know which operators year to use, but does it bother anyone
else when some people on this reflector mention that they are going to
purposely violate this rule for one agenda or another? If it is stated in
the rules what the check is supposed to be, stations should follow it to
the best of their memory (of year first licensed). Yes, the ARRL might not
enforce it, but still, it is in the rules. I guess I could send whatever
PREC I want also since it has no bearing on others scores. I am sure one
of the letters of A, B, U, M, Q and S are the easiest to copy, so I could
just pick that one and send it.
Along a related lines, I have seen the rules for some state QSO parties
where they mention you can use all HF bands except the WARC bands. That
allows me to run their contest on 60 meter! 60 meters is not a WARC band.
I didn't do it, but their rules allowed for it
