Ed,
I use the Timewave DSP599 with the Omni VI+. It is a dramatic improvement
over just the Omni filters. It is especially helpful with the WriteLog
tuning indicator, giving a very clear double peak. I think you lose just a
bit on really weak signals, but in a contest it is very handy.

And yes the OMNI VI+ has more than adequate DSP and Noise reduction filters
already installed. As well as CW filters down to 250 cycles.
What I want is is a filter which would go in line with the P38 or the output
of the rig to the sound card.
