Hi All,
I have been reading and reading the contest rule discussion and NOW I have
to
say something.
I was introduced to RTTY contesting while on a business trip to New
Hampshire
by Bob,W1UBG (SK). With a big grin on his face he showed me his meager
ARRL Roundup score listed in QST. He was sooooooo proud that his entry
score
was PRINTED.
A visit to his shack revealed a small Yeasu radio operating in AFSK to a
wire
dipole, controlled by an AMIGA computer.
Bob told me that no way could he compete with the big guns in RTTY contests.
So, he competed solely against his score last year. He showed me in QST
listings
where he had bettered his score consecutively for three years (I think).
I went home to WWA thinking about his philosophy. I liked the idea and I
entered my
first RTTY contest shortly afterward using a Commodore C-64 and MBA-TOR
game cartridge. I too, was PRINTED in QST. Then, I too, tried to beat last
years score.
I cant tell you how anxious I was for QST to come out each year so I could
see my results
printed. My kids, XYL, and friends have seen my results in QST because I
showed them!
Thanks to Bob's philosophy, I found RTTY CONTESTING is old fashioned FUN!!!
Now it saddens me to see only top scores, division, and plaque winners
listed in QST
for ARRL contests and ignore the little guys.
My 2 cents...
