I used N7US/5 in some RTTY contests when I lived in NM, and it was a
nuisance for LOTW. I had to submit N7US/5 QSOs to LOTW separate from N7US
in NM. Now I'm in IL, but I don?t want to operate as N7US/9.
I admit it's a nuisance having a call from outside the home district,
especially one with different propagation when a DXpedition is asking for
callers by call area, but it's the cost of a mobile society (and not wanting
to change calls!).
I'd skip a contest requiring the portable designator. (And I don?t believe
in pseudo club calls so I won?t get a 9 club call.)

With the ever changing distribution of US population (i.e., callsigns), I
don't see the logic of changing this rule for the JARTS contest. My hunch is
if you look at the US radio population overall, the number of active
contesters within each district has not changed. Adding /# simply adds more
"junk" to send (and potentially miscopy) and more "work" to manage your
contest logs. For example, if I were to operate in Idaho I don't think I
would bother using KØRC/7 (unless the contest rules require it - I think
BARTG has this rule).

Guys:
As one of the stations that *DID* indeed sign with a portable call
area, I also think that the requirement for signing portable when
appropriate should be included into next year's JARTS rules. If a
station doesn't read the rules, or chooses not to abide by them, it is
his/her *responsibility* to suffer the consequences. The rules are
not complicated, difficult to understand, or hard to obtain. JARTS has
done a great job, the rules just need a bit of fine tuning.
