Hi Bill --

Yes I agree with you in some respects. I just don't want to go through the
added effort of reading webpage-based email as I
already have quite a bit of email workload. But, more importantly, the Yahoo
privacy issue (overblown or not) is perceived as
important enough to more than just a couple of people. I assume the intent of
an Orion group/list is to reach a wide, knowledgeable
audience... so that's why I tried to encourage a change.

I'm perfectly happy to have an Orion-only list... I just don't want it on
Yahoo. That said, I've added enough gasoline to the
fire. There isn't anything more constructive that I can add and I've given it
my best shot. The worst that can happen is the Orion
discussion goes back to Yahoo, and I (and others) will remain unaware of what
has transpired there. Mostly I will be sorry to miss
out on what learned and posted by people whose opinions I respect (like you!).

K3NA:
but there is one piece of non-bogus information: your e-mail address!

So create a Yahoo address specifically for Yahoo
Groups! That'swhat I did and I only read the Groups via webpage. I am
subscribed
to about a dozen Yahoo Groups as well as using several of their
financial BB's and feel this whole "privacy" issue is academic. Yahoo
disguises your E-mail address anyway...even better than contesting.com
does! My address appears here as "btippett at alum.mit.edu" and on Yahoo
it appears as "w0zv@y..."

I think we're making a mountain out of a molehill on this whole
Yahoo issue. It's because of all the noise (like this discussion)
that this reflector has a much lower signal-to-noise ratio than the
previous Yahoo Orion reflector did. JMHO.

                                                 73, Bill W4ZV
