Bernie,

I received my Orion II about three or so weeks after they came out. I have been extremely pleased with the radio and have not had any major problems. I operate FSK, CW, and SSB; probably a 15%, 45% and 40% in the aforementioned modes.

There were some problems with the first couple of softwere releases, but the major "bugs" have been fixed. I am quite sure their are other minor glitches that are still there; they just don't affect the way I operate, nor the majority of other owners.

One fact that I seem to have noticed in the posts on the reflector is the radio might be more susptible to glitches and problems if you do not have a descent ground. I have no idea what a "descent" ground is however.

To answer your question; yes, I think the radio is very reliable and I would not hesitate to recommend buying one.

Guys and Guyettes,
After many years of blissfully enjoying my Omni VI+, I am very close to
buying an Orion II. In the process, I can't help but notice what appears to be
an understandably long list of needed software fixes.
I would greatly appreciate the group's sense of how those glitches affect
you all. Generally speaking, do you find the latest release functionally
solid? I'm not too worried about some of the minor things, but I wouldn't want
to buy just yet if the radio has fundamental operating issues. Are there
lock-ups? Are basic functions reliable? Is it ready for prime time?
 Thanks.
