Same here, and same result. I am the one who started the thread. However, I should point out that when it started, we were talking about the O2.

I am now quite convinced that for everyday CW DXing, the AGC serves no purpose. I consistently have better readability by turning it off, then preamp on, RF gain low/audio high, and at least a little attenuation on 40-160m. I only use digital NR when I am desperate, but the HW noise blanker is great.

That, together with pretty good conditions, got me 5 new ones this weekend.

Having followed this thread from end to end I spent the weekend trying various combinations of AF/RF gain on my Omni VII. I ended up turning up the AF gain, turning on the preamp and using the RF gain to control output. On 20M I ended up having to turn on noise reduction to 9. At that point I thought I might be getting a bit of improvement but I haven't spent enough time to be sure.

So, has anybody spent enough time with the Omni VII to suggest the best combination of all of these parameters?
Thanks, Al KI6NRE.
