[TenTec] Hooking up Omni VII to computer ---direct--- how?

Gang...

I've been trying to talk to my Omni VII and it's like we're on  
different planets

I can do the firmware updates, but can't seem to get the computer to  
connect to the rig via a ethernet cross over cable.

what am I doing wrong??
