Well... Ten Tec does offer a 30 day return policy.  If you are not  
happy, send it back.

Sure... it could be a QC issue at the factory.  Or maybe a decision  
to pass as "up to spec" items that are in a certain range of  
performance.
To do a more thorough check, I bet the price would have to be  
increased.  Mil spec stuff costs at least 10 times more than other  
gear, in part because of that.  $3K is a lot of money to most hams,  
but in the world of commercial and military gear, it's chump change.
