Sounds good to me.
But you gotta promise to make us all some of that great pasta of yours,
James!

Heck, I'll even invite Angela....

Well... shoot, Rick. Maybe next year, Stu, and Gary, and JB, and Bob, and
the rest of the guys and I should skip over the pond to your villa in
DE-land, and make a week of it. We can line up some good German beer, cater
in some good German chow, hang some wire, and enjoy the view from your
bodacious backyard picnic shelter. (Guys... I have seen pictures of it, and
it is big... with a kitchen and all, so it would be
a swell FD site.) We will invite the Mayor, the local constabulary,
and some local chicks to join the festivities. It will be a fabulous PR
event. We can all take turns chatting up the US stations, who will feel
compelled to tolerate us because we will be DX to them.

I am SURE your wife won't mind if you put us all up for the WEEK ahead of
time... so we have plenty of time to set up and get ready... nah...
no problem at all... I keep a low profile except for my chronic snoring...
but that's no big deal... at least not to me...and...
and... ;-)

Yeah... ask her how that sounds?

        But seriously folks...

This all brings up an important question that arose
during a contest last Spring, namely, what CAN be
done to minimize intermod between radios during a
FD and when contesting - especially when having
both CW and SSB stations on the same band, with
antennas less than a 1/4 mile apart? The SSB guys
were all located in pole barn type building, while
the CW ops were working out of a medium sized motor
home about 1/4 mile out in a big field. Each
crew had separate antennas separated by the same
distance as the rigs were spaced.

The CW ops were using Elecraft K3s (and one Kenwood
TS-580) while the phone ops were using two OMNI VIIs,
and Orion II, an OMNI VI Plus, and another Kenwood
TS-570. We used TWO band pass filters on each of the
SSB rigs, and I believe they were also using TWO
band pass filters on each of the CW rigs. Phone
rigs were each running either an Alpha 76 or one of
two Ten-Tec Titan linear amps. I think the SSB rigs
were all using 1 kW or more.

The CW ops complained we were imposing on them, but
I don't believe any of the SSB ops had problems
        from the CW side.

I find it hard to believe the TT radios were all to
blame... we have done this before without so much
headache, but I suppose the argument works both ways:
namely, that either the Elecraft rigs are easily
        susceptible to problems, and that is their weakness;
        - OR - (perish the thought) the TT rigs or the
linear amps used with them were splattering widely
over the rest of the band.

        Possible cures might include ?

I WONDERED WHY WE DID NOT JUST LOWER POWER ON ALL
THE SSB RIGS... but I was out voted on that, even
though we were being told we were LOUD from stations
        contacted.

        *** ANY OTHER IDEAS ??? ***

A list of things to consider would be greatly
appreciated ! We can research the list from
now until then and be ready to implement the
various suggestions if the problem returns.

Thanks.

PS - I am the newest member of the group ... so I
would like to be helpful and contribute something
to the group beyond a hot body at the operating
        position. . . . THANKS !
