I agree with Jim. Having repaired several of the Omni VI series, the areas
of concern are the connectors that are used between boards and with the
wiring harness terminations. Carefully unplug each, inspect around pins
with a bright light and magnification to assure no solder cracks exists.
Same for the IC's in sockets on the boards. I suggest a contact cleaner
such as Cramolin. But take caution in using any cleaner "least is best".
The put things back together and exercise each connector by then unplugging
it again and re-inserting it. The wiping process cleans the pins, both male
and female.
You can check the data going to the LED displays all the way to the segment
of the LED to see if there is a failure of the LED device or if a failure
exists elsewhere. I am not a proponent of changing parts to see if that
fixes a problem. I much prefer to spend the time to find the defective part
and simply replace that part. The repair success rate is much higher using
this method as opposed to putting in new parts and see what happens. I've
found too many times that folks put in new, but defective parts, or make
solder errors which introduce added problems.
