Ron, sorry, I think we are out of sync a bit.

I was only speaking about the software aspect and didn't interpret this
thread as being about all the reasons why the Eagle is not popular in the
contest community. Let's be more exact. It is not usable at large contest
sites due to lack of band data. Some users also have problems with its
ergonomics or lack of band stacking register. (not me)

I think a lot of people who contest alone are quite happy with the Eagle.
Of the 400 people in our club, there are perhaps 30 or 40 using Ten-Tec
gear, but I don't think we have more than 2 or 3 running an Eagle.

Sorry, I was not being exact in my terminology, I should have said that
omnirig is not an application software program, just a set of drivers. As I
hardware guy, I just said not a software.

Omnirig presents a single API to the application software, and mates to a
100 or so different transceivers.
All a 3rd party software programmer has to do is write one single interface
to omnirig and his application software program is automatically compatible
with 100 different radios. Sweet.

Unfortunately the Eagle is not included in this list and when I asked
omnirig's author to do it, he told me to do it myself or find someone else
to do it. His excuse was that the Eagle is exotic, and uses a USB
connection.
That is a silly excuse, AND YES, I think this is a significant problem!

John Henry has said Ten-Tec will provide a radio if someone will do the
work.
This gives me something I can work with.
I will try again to find a solution.
I sure hope we can get it done before CQWW.

Drivers aren't software? OK, I know what you meant, but technically, that
statement is not accurate.

So, of OmniRig is a set of software drivers for various radios...
And it supports the CAT interface for these radios to for multiple Amateur
Radio applications, not just WinTest...
And it doesn't currently support the Eagle...

You don't think this is a problem? Or am I still misunderstanding
something?

Regarding band data... so all of a sudden, the OmniRig driver situation is
NOT the reason that contest clubs aren't interested in the Eagle?

Fine. This is getting nowhere. I give up. You win. Nobody should contest
with the Eagle.
