It is sooo easy to water wash copper tubing into the ground for ground rods.
Just partially close the bottom end of a 3/4 inch pipe to form a jet. Then
attach a garden hose to the top end with a cable clamp, turn on the water and
jet the pipe into the ground. I have put down many ten foot pipes this way
without a single blow.
If you insist on using solid ground rods, jet the copper pipe down without
closing the bottom end, remove the hose, drop the solid rod down inside the
pipe, replace the hose, turn on the water and remove the pipe leaving the
ground rod in the hole.
This works great in most soils, not so good in hard clay.
