Delhi made two styles of self supporting tower - the original necked "coke
bottle" design and the more recent uniform tapered sections. Both can be
extended with straight sections to significant heights and must be guyed.
But the Delhi is not an exact copy of the Rohn BX. They certainly are
similar but the most obvious difference is that Rohn BX has the X bracing
significantly closer together - almost touching - and is therefore
sturdier. The earlier necked Delhi's are much more closely related to the
Rohn/Spaulding AX series of towers.
Any self supporting tower can be guyed and it will withstand higher winds.
The upwind guy(s) will reduce the compression in the down wind leg(s) and
keep them more closely equal. If the failure mechanism is torque twisting
the tower to the point of failure, then a simple 3 way guy may not add much
to this scenario. Star guying would.
Many statements that come from manufacturers are driven by the legal
department and are purely there to thwart legal action. Do not confuse them
with sound technical advice.
