In general, the service entrance is a good place to put the device. It's 
close to the grounding point, it's where the impulse is coming from, etc.

$6/month is hard to evaluate.. Service Entrance type devices designed 
for outdoor installation, etc. run several hundred dollars for decent 
ones, plus the cost of the electrician (and building permit if required) 
to install it (unless you do it yourself).


Do they give a make and model for the device, then we can comment more 
intelligently about what it's performance might be?  (and get a feel for 
the price, too)

Do they give you some sort of downstream insurance coverage? (i.e. like 
the "$50k coverage for anything plugged into this on-sale $6 Belkin plug 
strip")
