I own a ride on trencher, like a small backhoe but not mounted to a
tractor or similar. It has a 13 inch wide bucket. I will be renting a
DitchWitch ride-on for some trenches I need for a couple 4 inch
conduits. Why? Because the DitchWitch style trencher will get the job
done in a small fraction of the time it would take with my little
backhoe style machine.

I want to cut a slot in the yard about 12” wide and about 12” deep to

Is a trencher the right tool for that job?
I have no experience with that sort of thing but the rental guy I talked too scratched
his head when I mentioned the 1400’ length and the fact the trench was shallow.
Maybe I have the wrong rental place. Or maybe this is better a job for a mini
excavator?
