How much do you pay for an SO-259?  I bought one at a hamfest for $1.  It was
Chinese junk that allowed poor conduction to the center connector.  I would not make a
dipole antenna with one of those.
I bought the Alpha-Delta dipole antenna kit back in 1998.  It is used for an
80m dipole that is still working great.
I find DX Engineering to be a provider of quality products with excellent
service.

But like so much of what they sell, pricing is exorbitant.  I doubt
there's $3 in materials there.  I'm not naive enough to think that
prices depend on costs, but...

I am looking for a better dipole center connector better than the
Budwig.  Any ideas?
The Budwig can pull apart.
Yes, it's pretty lame in that regard. On the one occasion where I
used it, I didn't use it as a structural component -- tension was
maintained with antenna rope to insulators through which both sides
passed, each seriously clamped, and looping down to the Budwig, where
split-bolts connected them to the Budwig.
